Safe Rooms for the Pusillanimous

You spew more pompous pedantry
Than a sixty inch principal
Spillway pipe flowing from a full
Reservoir filled by rainfall, three
Feet in less than twenty four, presently
Steady rising water level; visual
Picture of hell to the local political
With the doomsday media there to see.

Just so happens, your ignorance contained,
The dam retards the crisis as designed.
Those who believe are more than half-brained,
Seeking the safe room you're just kept blind.
Facing the turbulence and bloodstained,
It's resisting the flow that saves mankind.

  1. Christian, husband & father, dam engineer, and recently, a "Patterson" styled poet, this one goes out to all those struggling with the after-effects of the natural disaster known as Hurricane Harvey. The opening line came to mind while once debating an atheist on-line over the existence of God and forms the theme, the impetus for the hidden meaning found in this poem: God saves by design. Written in an 8-6 sonnet to the abbaabba cdcdcd rhyme style, enjoy!

  2. "Resisting the flow" is how dam engineers build a reservoir. Resisting the flow of thinking that a secular society presents is how one builds faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
